Victoria's Secret put on an hour long lingerie fashion show extravaganza in prime time on network television.
Previously, I made an entry in passing referring to this fashion show, and I finally found the tape and watched the program. I made a point of finding this program I recorded a while back after I got an email accusing me of objectifying women in an entry I made a while ago about a woman I saw wearing regular nylon stockings instead of pantyhose or tights. I record things on tape so I can watch later and skip over the commercials, and this one, when I finally got around to actually watching the tape, was impressive as fashion shows go. Just in case you are interested, here is a link to The 2003 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. On E! on cable, I watch a couple of fashion programs which cover the current fashion scene both in the US and Europe. I like to see what is happening in the fashion world. Of particular interest to me in these 2 half hour programs is they sometimes show what goes on behind the scenes in putting on a fashion show. The logistics of the runway fashion show must really be something. A long time ago, a woman I knew (and subsequently married, had a son with and then divorced, but that's another story.) went to school for "fashion merchandising" in downtown San Francisco. I got a taste of the fashion world then, and it has kept my interest ever since. We were living together at the time and she taught me some of the things she was learning and it interested me. Hey, I was in love and this young lady was a real babe. I don't buy magazines or anything like that, but I do browse through some at the library from time to time. There is a well known correlation between hemlines and the economy after all. Victoria's Secret is the current lingerie leader, at least here in the US, though they do carry a full line of clothing and accessories. Just look for the commercials, which come up all over the place. The current "push" is for a push up bra which does not use pads I think. Pun, intended. Personally, I think La Perla is much better, but who can afford La Perla? It used to be Frederick's of Hollywood was THE place to go for sexy lingerie, mail order only at first, until Mr. Frederick went public as a supplier to the stars. I even took a detour once while driving from San Diego to San Jose through downtown Los Angeles just so I could visit Frederick's in person, and of course, I happened to hit rush hour. Cybill Shepherd swears by "The Wonder Bra" which he came out with. Frederick's still exists and apparently is still going strong, after surviving bankruptcy a few years ago. I think it is great that these companies exist, and now, they are on the front lines of prime time. The show was a big production, which was to be expected for a prime time network slot, dancers and singers in addition to the models in clothing which barely covered and by the way, how DO they keep those things in place? Double sided tape, perhaps? Have you seen models walk down the runway? I mean, really looked at the way they walk on the runway? They cross one foot over in front and on the far side of the other as they walk which causes them to land hard on the heel which causes delightful bouncing in various parts but must be very uncomfortable. The high heels accentuate this hard landing which makes for even more bouncing. Well, this walk is uncomfortable for a man anyway because men's hip joints are closer together and angled in somewhat. I guess women's hip joints make this awkward gait possible. The most striking thing about every fashion show I've watched is that the models are all so THIN, skinny really. Well, anyway, though these women are way too thin for me, they do look nice, and the clothing, what little of it there was, really looked good as well. It is a wonder to me how so little material, can cost so much. The markup must really be something. I think this must be a business with a very high profit margin if the quantity of material is any kind of measure versus cost. And, as a guy, it may be politically incorrect to say so out loud, but I kind of like seeing beautiful women in lingerie which is somewhere between skimpy and a trick of the light...

(P.S. If you are interested in obtaining some vintage nylon or silk stockings, knitted on the only existing machines left located in England and France, you might try visiting http://www.stockingshq.com/ and poking around to find the pages where they have them for sale. Be aware that prices are English Pounds and are a bit steep. They also have quite a few pages devoted to information and experiences with stockings. The site is a pantyhose-free zone. And then there is another resource at http://www.l-s-g.com where you can find some reading material in addition to pictures. There are also links to other resources and prices are less than at StockingsHQ. Lastly, here is a link to a place a lady friend told me about http://www.sexyshoes.com/ which has shoes and some stockings. I leave any further research as an exercise for the reader.)
