It is New Year's Eve and it is a SNOW DAY in the Pacific Northwest! Here is Washington State, on the west side of the Cascade Mountains, we don't get a whole lot of snow, but last night, we did. I live about 30 miles due west of Seattle, on the other side of Puget Sound, and there is now about 5 inches of snow on my front steps. I can see out to the road and there are tire tracks from people driving up and down the slope where I live. The temperature is above freezing by a little so this snow won't be around for very long. I saw live pictures from over in Seattle and the snow is still falling over there, but very lightly, though none is currently falling on my front steps. Of course, with rare snow days here, people don't handle the snow well and the pictures from the news of the accidents come one after another. I turned on the Northwest Cable News channel and they just showed a weather forcast. The snow has moved to the east into the Cascade foothills and the weather radar shows rain falling near me, and the temparature is at 35 degrees F in the area surrounding me, so that seems to be it for the snow from this storm. The only thing to do now is bundle up and head off to watch the fireworks from the Space Needle. At least I'm not driving. A friend is taking care of that. He called to tell me he will meet me at the bottom of the hill where the roads are cleared already. My road probably won't get a snow plow for a couple of days. Enjoy the New Year!
