A local PBS radio station plays 2 hours of the Grateful Dead every Sunday night. Yep, they do! KBCS is a PBS station run by the Bellevue Community College, located a ways north of Seattle, in Bellevue of course! You can see their website at KBCS 91.3 FM in Seattle. The program is "The Grateful Dead Hour," followed by another hour called "Backtracks" which is also devoted to The Grateful Dead mostly with some other period pieces thrown in which relate to The Dead in some way. My Sunday is deveoted to the radio starting at 1600, 4 PM to you local yokels who do not know about the 24 hour time used by a lot of people in the world outside the USA. It is simple, if the time is 13 hundred or more, then subtract 12 hundred, so 13 hundred (1300) becomes 1 PM and 14 hundred (1400) becomes 2 PM. You just have to remember the 2 exceptions, 0 hours which means midnight and 12 hundred which is 12 PM in the afternoon. At one time, I had a watch with a 24 hour dial. The hour hand took 24 hours to go round one time. At midnight, the hour hand was straight up, and at noon, pointed straight down. I was a victim of a robbery in the Phillipines once, and I lost this watch. I have never been able to find another like it, though I have looked long and hard. The best I can do is a digital which keeps 24 hour time. I would rather have the hands showing the time. I had that watch for over 5 years and it went to sea with me and I really got used to seeing the hands since the Navy keeps 24 hour time on the logsheets and such. So, anyway, I start listening at 1600 when "The Sunday Hornpipe" program comes on, 4 hours of celtic/irish music which is a pleasure to hear, followed by 2 hours of The Dead, followed by 2 hours of "The Bluse House" which is, of course, 2 hours of classic blues. By the way, many of you readers out there know I am an avid football fan, and am glued to the tube for the games. I resolve the conflict with Sunday night football by recording the game while I listen to the radio, and watch the Sunday night game on Monday during the day before Monday night football program comes on!
