And to think people voted for Orrin Hatch!
(Yahoo! News - Fri, Jun 20, 2003) The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said on Tuesday (06/17/2003) that he'd be interested in learning ways to damage computers used to illegally swap song and movie files.
The comments came during a hearing on copyright abuse. Hatch was quoted by the Associated Press as saying he'd be interested in hearing about ways to disrupt file-swappers without destroying their systems, but if that couldn't be done then he'd be in favor of destroying their computers. Say, what? Who does this guy think he is? Orrin Hatch is advocating making it legal for the record companies to damage your property by remote control, a targeted attack on your computer simply because you might have a file on your hard disk which may be copyrighted amterial. If Orrin Hatch gets his way, the record companies could damage your computer even if you had a file on your machine by mistake. This appears to be a guilty until proven innocent scenario to me. Where does this madness stop? This is not a guy I would vote for, how about you?
