Dubya gets sworn in for his 2nd term today
It is late in the day of the 20th of January, 2005. I spent the day watching the inauguration and subsequent parade and events of the day broadcast by CNN and the other cable news services. I am not a fan of the man. I respect the office of the President. I spent 21 years in the Navy supporting the Constitution and following the orders of the President, the Commander in Chief. I took an oath similar to Dubya to do exactly the same things. So, I respect the office, I just do not like the person filling the office at the moment. What struck me during the 20 minutes of Dubya's address after he took the oath of office, was the pause for effect, waiting for applause, which sometimes came a bit late. I could just imagine the teleprompter text with PAUSE in the text between paragraphs of the speech he was reading. Dubya was waiting for the applause which seemed to be expected, and the pause was just a bit too long to be spontaneous. I guess I am not the only one who was put off by the man in the office. Another thing bothered me, his many references to God and such during his brief 20 minute address. I know, there are many references to God and the creator in the Constituition and Declaration of Independence. Our currency even has "In God We Trust" printed on the back of each bill, but I think Dubya went too far in the number of references in his address. Just my opinion.
