Well, I think I've fixed the scripts for Netscape I modified the syntax of a few of the script commands after doing some research and it worked! I now see both the single line clock above the title, and the lifeclock in the left column in both IE6 and Netscape 7.1. and both are counting as they are supposed to. My research showed that Microsoft has taken some "liberties" with javascript and objects. Netscape does not use the same "shortcuts" which are accepted by Microsoft. Twits! My problem was following along in MS's wake and using IE only to test, and trusting MS when they said how things worked in their publications. There are a lot of scripts out on the web which won't work in Netscape because of people doing things the way Microsoft says and using the shortcuts that MS uses in IE, which causes failures in Netscape. The problem is that MS does not say these are "shortcuts" but ignores the issue entirely, which is guilt by omission, the incomplete truth. Oh well, I've learned the hard way not to trust MS, yet again! Now that I've been using Netscape for several days, I think I like it better than IE6. I especially like the tab feature. The point of this entry is that if you are using IE6, you might consider trying Netscape at least. I have, and I am going to keep on using Netscape, in parallel with IE for the time being so I can test javascripts in both. I am considering dropping IE6 in favor of NS 7.1 full time. Only time will tell. Again, my thanks go out to Patricia, who emailed me about the original display problem, which turned out to be IE6 related with the shortcuts MS allowed but which did not work in NS. Otherwise, without getting a copy of NS myself and testing, since Microsoft is silent on the shortcuts and what works where, I would have never known of the problem...
By the way, I did a total republish of everything so the archives are working as they should. I just looked back at the archice links for March and April of 2003 to see, and sure enough, the pages are all there as expected and the scripts work there as well.
