So, I was cruising using the remote and came across the Travel Channel this afternoon just in time to see a program which totally amazed me. I am not easily impressed, but this was impressive. Imagine a luxury liner, 40,000 tons, with only 375 people, residents, not passengers. The world's first floating city has set sail, "The World" is the name, and it takes a minimum of $5,000,000.00 to buy your way in for a 50 year lease. The name of the program is "Residency - The Floating City" so you can check your TV guide and find it. The ship is a floating condominium of sorts. It has suites which are leased for 50 years, not owned outright as in a true condominium, and it has several guest suites for short term use for people who want to tag along for the ride for a while. The concept is interesting, a floating condo. I've read science fiction about cities in flight and I think this ship is the beginning of what may be a trend, a gated community in the extreme. I guess it pays to be rich.
